Are we alone in the universe? Host Leonard Nimoy (Star Trek's Mr. Spock) poses this question, which has puzzled humanity since its beginning. Learn about the attempts being made to establish contact with extraterrestrial civilizations. Examine the ingredients necessary for life on our planet as we ponder the possibility of life in our solar system and beyond. Far Out Space Places

Take a virtual vacation as you visit the most extreme destinations in our cosmic neighborhood. Scale the cliffs of the Mariner Valley on Mars, glide on the winds of Neptune, and visit the original lunar landing site of the Apollo astronauts. Breathtaking images that will put you in the midst of these far out space places. See "Far Out Space Places" Wed - Fri at 10am and Sat-Sun at 11am.

Blown Away: Wild World of Weather
GOLDEN POND PLANETARIUM
A virtual adventure produced by the New Detroit Science Center. You will see an incredible view of the many forms of our earth's weather through spectacular footage, projected on our 40-foot dome. "Blown Away" features a journey into space to explore the sun's effect on weather conditions. See "Blown Away" Wed - Fri at 12 noon and Sat-Sun at 3pm.

Girls Day Out: Beginner Orienteering

Let's go, ladies! Let's learn how to find our way with a map and compass so we can show up the guys. Bring a friend, daughter, mom, or sister, and join us to learn some basic orienteering skills and put them into practice. $4 per person. Includes same day NS admission. Every place has its spooky myths and legends. LBL is no different! Hop aboard as we visit spooky spots, tell some local ghost stories, and look for nocturnal wildlife during this van tour. The Making of Warm Winter Clothing

Since the spring sheep shearing, the farmwomen have been busy at their spinning wheels producing yarn to be knitted, crocheted or woven into winter clothing. Give a hand helping to card the last of the spring wool for the spinning wheel. Witness the fascinating process as wool is spun into yarn and then made into clothing or try on unique 1850s winter clothing. *Ideal for Home Educators. Program free with HP admission.

Kids Fossil Field Trip

Let's go on a fossil hunt! We'll take you to a rocky shoreline where we can find all sorts of fossils, including crinoids, bryozoans, and ancient clams. While we climb around on the giant rocks and do some fun activities, you will learn how to spot fossils and figure out how they got here.
