"Friends of LBL" Photo Contest Winners Announced
GOLDEN POND, KY - The winners of the first Land Between The Lakes Photo Contest: Honoring Gene Boaz presented by "Friends of LBL", the Land Between The Lakes Association was presented at the 25th Anniversary Celebration of the Land Between The Lakes Association held at Lake Barkley State Resort Park Convention Center on Saturday, November 1, 2008.
The six categories of competition in the contest were; birds, mammals, habitat, small world, connecting people and nature, and digitally enhanced. Participants could compete in all six categories. Contest rules required that all photos submitted be taken in or of Land Between The Lakes National Recreation Area.
Three places were awarded in each category with a Grand Prize Winner being selected from the top finishers in the six categories. First places finishers received a $300.00 cash prize, second place received $150, and third place received $50. The Grand Prize winner received $500. The contest entry fee was $20.
The contest winners were:
Birds - 1st Place, Carl Wilson, Palmyra, TN; 2nd Place, Al Perry, Evansville, IN; 3rd Place, Ray Stainfield, Cadiz, KY.
Mammals - 1st Place, Ray Stainfield; 2nd Place, Sherry Bailey, Dover, TN; 3rd Place, Tammi Stainfield, Cadiz, KY.
Habitat - 1st Place, Jim Ethridge, Paducah, KY; 2nd Place, Ray Stainfield; 3rd Place, Jim Ethridge.
Small World - Susan Corbin, Big Sandy, TN; 2nd Place, Al Perry; 3rd Place Brent Norsworthy, Murray, KY.
Connecting People and Nature - 1st Place, Al Perry; 2nd Place, Jim Ethridge; 3rd Place, Tom Fusco, Grand Rivers, KY.
Digitally Enhanced - 1st Place, Teresa Germeinhardt, Anniston, MO; 2nd Place, Lynn Knoedler, Woodlawn; TN; 3rd Place, Murray Blake, Hopkinsville, KY.
Grand Prize - Carl Wilson.
The winning photos can be viewed through the "Friends of LBL" website at www.friendsoflbl.org or at the photo contest website www.lblphotocontest.org. Judges for the competition were painter and writer Don Cull of Bagdad, KY who has over 25 years on experience as a professional photographer. Charlie Palek has been a professional photographer and writer for over 35 years. Charlie lives in Columbia, MO. Marty Colburn has been a professional photographer and videographer for 34 years. Marty, who was also the co-chair of the contest along with his wife Brenda, is from Calvert City where he has a photo gallery.
A total of 116 people registered for the contest from twelve states with 63 submitting photos. Entries were received from as far away as California, Georgia and Wisconsin.
