Join LBL May 23 & 24 for the Annual Pickin’ Party Old-Time Music Festival at The Homeplace GOLDEN POND, KY – Two days filled with music, musicians, and music lovers from all over the mid-South are tuning up for the annual Pickin' Party, scheduled for May 23 & 24 at The Homeplace living history farm, located in the Tennessee portion of Land Between The Lakes (LBL) National Recreation Area.
"The Pickin’ Party has made a name for itself throughout the region as the old-time music event that promotes and keeps Kentucky and Tennessee music traditions alive," said Homeplace Special Events Coordinator, Cindy Earls. "It’s exciting to see the level of talent displayed during this weekend, especially the young musicians who are so dedicated in preserving the traditions of their ancestors. It’s a wonderful way to experience and learn about the region’s musical heritage."
Old-time fiddle, guitar, and banjo musicians hold concerts and pickin’ sessions throughout each day. This year’s event welcomes back old favorites like folk musician Mark Dvorak and new favorites such as Pickin Bubs, Steephill Traveler, and The Holt Brothers Band. You can look forward to enjoying a weekend of great performers such as the Dixie Volunteers and the award winning old-time string and bluegrass band Cumberland River Plowboys.
Children will have an opportunity to join in old-time games and play with toys from the mid-19th century. Bring along your instruments to participate in an "open-mic" stage that will be available at various times throughout the day. Or, you may prefer to sit and play beneath the shade trees among fellow pickers and visitors. Scheduled pickin’ sessions will be by the Tool Barn for folks to sit and listen or pick along with the main performers.
Visitors can take self-guided tours of The Homeplace farm while the melodies of old-time tunes echo through the hollow. The Homeplace includes 16 historic log structures furnished in the style of the mid-19th century. Interpreters in period clothing will help bring the site to life.
The event is scheduled from 11 a.m. to 8 p.m., Saturday, May 23, and 12 p.m. to 5 p.m., Sunday, May 24. Saturday admission is $6 ages 13 and up, $4 ages 5-12, and free for ages 4 and under. Sunday admission is $5 ages 13 and up, $3 ages 5-12, and free for 4 and under. Picnic type foods and ice-cold drinks are available for purchase. Bring lawn chairs, ground blankets, picnic baskets, and umbrellas–in the event of rain. There are several options for overnight accommodations. Camping is available at LBL and private campgrounds in the area. Lodging is also available at state resort parks and motels in the surrounding area.
Land Between The Lakes is located approximately 90 miles northwest of Nashville, TN. The Homeplace is located in the Tennessee portion of LBL.
