The Homeplace Presents “Children's Day: ‘Sleep Tight’ on the Farm”

GOLDEN POND, KY - Land Between The Lakes (LBL) National Recreation Area will host “Children’s Day: ‘Sleep Tight’ on the Farm” Saturday, June 6, 2009.

Life for a child on an 1850’s farm was busy with lots of daily chores, helping their parents with farm work, attending school, and playing with homemade toys and games.

“This year's event is a unique twist to “Children's Day” and a wonderful opportunity for children to learn about farm life in the 1850s.  They will spend the day participating in hands-on programs seeing how they would have lived and learn the hard work it took to get a good night's sleep.  It is going to be a fun day for the whole family,” comments Cindy Earls, Special Events Coordinator.

After the farm work was done, children went to bed to sleep in their comfy feather bed; however, they would not have had a good night's sleep if it was not for all the hard work that went into making everything from the bed to bedding.

Pack a picnic lunch, bring your camera, and come ready for an enjoyable day of fun and discovery.  The day offers a variety of activities for all ages, but is especially geared for ages 5-12.  Activities are ongoing from 10am-4pm. Throughout the farm children will participate in activities to help them understand what it took to get a good night's sleep in 1850.  Children will also learn what “sleep tight” meant to an 1850's child.
