LBL Presents Cool and Crawly Critters Day July 11

GOLDEN POND, KY - Kids and creatures will come out of their shells when Land Between The Lakes (LBL) National Recreation Area hosts Cool & Crawly Critters Day Saturday, July 11, 2009, at Woodlands Nature Station from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m.

“The Nature Station will be buzzing with opportunities for children to learn first-hand about the benefits of critters that often give us the heebie-jeebies,” explained Carrie Szwed. “Children can look forward to a full day of discovery!”

The day’s events will include several special guests, such as the University of Kentucky’s Insect Road Show with live giant bugs and spiders, reptile expert Gary Johnson presenting live snakes, and graduate students from Murray State University exhibiting live turtles and other herps. Stop by our interactive booths to make a cool & crawly craft, peer into the world of aquatic insects, and have some major fun with frogs. Featured programs include:

11am        Bugs for Lunch
1pm          Hamming it up with Honeybees
2:30pm      A Talk About Ticks
3:30pm      Nature's Calling: The Study of Scat
