2nd Annual "12-Hours of the Canal Loop" Endurance Mountain Bike Race
GOLDEN POND, KY - The "12 Hours of the Canal Loop", an endurance mountain bike race, is set to take place for the second time at Land Between The Lakes National Recreation Area (LBL) on Saturday, September 12. Kentucky Lake Scenic Drive will be closed to non-participants September 11-13.
This endurance mountain bike race, hosted locally by Wood-N-Wave Bicycles & Water Sports, and sanctioned by the National Off-Road Bicycling Association (NORBA) and USA Cycling (USAC), will cover challenging and varied terrain along the Canal Loop Trail. The race lap is 11.3 miles.
There are several race categories that accommodate individuals or teams, including: male and female solo pro and solo pro open, solo single speed, duo competitive, male, female, or mixed duo open, 4-person, 4-person mixed, and 5-8 person. Cash awards will be given. Races will be held rain or shine.
"We're very excited about continuing to host this great race," comments Bill Ryan, LBL Resource Specialist. "Steve Wilson with Wood-N-Wave has coordinated several race events, as well as helped maintain bike trails at LBL through volunteer work. They have always done an excellent job!"

On-site registration will be Sept. 11 from 3-7 p.m. on Kentucky Lake Scenic Drive. (Anything after 8 p.m. will incur a $10 late fee.) A mandatory meeting for racers begins at 8:45 a.m. with the race kicking off at 9 a.m.
Cost for the race varies by category from $70 to $80 per person and $140 to $280 for duos and teams. Racers must have a USAC license, which will be sold on-site. A one-day license may be purchased for $10. Sponsors of the event include: GU Energy Gel, RoadID, Louis Garneau, and Red Bull Energy Drink. The event is hosted by Wood-N-Wave and Land Between The Lakes.
